Later today Lady Gaga is expected to confirm her status as the hottest star on the planet, when she becomes the world's most popular Twitter user, according to Famecount.com, the social media statistics service.
At 10:30am GMT the star recorded 5,635,460 followers, versus current Twitter Queen, Britney Spears, at 5,646,028. At current rates of follower growth, Lady Gaga is set to storm past Britney today or, at latest, tomorrow. Lady Gaga's surging popularity brings Britney's reign at the top to a brief end - she only claimed the Twitter crown from Ashton Kutcher less than 3 months ago. At that time Famecount.com had forecast that Lady Gaga would soon usurp Britney.
The milestone further cements Lady Gaga's status as the world's most popular star online. On 25th June she overtook Obama to became the world's most popular living person on Facebook, and currently claims over 16m fans on the network. On an aggregated basis across Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, Famecount.com can also confirm that Lady Gaga is now by far the most popular entity online.

One Night Only's new album can be compared to a 'horny bull'
The British indie rockers ' whose self-titled second album is to be released later in the month ' revealed the band have made a 'huge progression' since bringing out their debut LP 'Started A Fire' in 2008, and now sound completely different.
Frontman George Craig explained: 'The last album would probably have been a door mouse maybe. But the new one is like an angry rhino or a horny bull, wanting to blow out everywhere.
't's a different band ' with a new sound and a new drummer, it's at a totally different level. I think the new album is a huge progression and people are going top to be shocked at the sound.'
George ' who is currently dating 'Harry Potter' star Emma Watson ' admitted the video that accompanies new single 'Say You Don't Want It' is 'weird'.
He added to FHM magazine: 'The video's so weird and different that people are like, 'What the f**k is that?' '
Emma ' who appears in the video, which sees the couple turn into dogs ' recently revealed they drew inspiration from Disney classic 'Lady and the Tramp' for the promotional clip.
She said: "It's kind of an ode to 'Lady and the Tramp'. George is Tramp and I'm Lady. George finds me because I'm lost and in a dodgy part of New York. He slowly wins me over and there's a bit of a twist at the end."

Robbie Williams has got married
The 36-year-old singer tied the knot with long-term partner Ayda Field in an intimate ceremony at the couple's Beverly Hills home at 5pm yesterday (07.08.10).
Robbie's delighted father Pete Conway said: 'At last, Rob is happy. That's what you want for your kids and this is the happiest I've seen him. Ayda is so beautiful and so delightful and so lovely and just so right for him. They are brilliant together."
The wedding had been shrouded in mystery, with friends only told of the couple's wedding plans a few days ago and the venue changed at the last minute from the island of Catalina to their Los Angeles house amid security concerns.
A friend of the couple said: 'The 'save-the-date' cards that went out two weeks ago only said it was a party to celebrate Robbie's 20 years in showbusiness.
't was only in the last few days that news leaked out that it was going to be a wedding. Robbie is the happiest I have ever seen him.
'He says that until Ayda came along he didn't know what it was like to be truly happy. He credits her with teaching him how to learn to laugh and love again.'
According to reports, the 30-minute ceremony was followed by a sit-down dinner and dancing, but it is believed alcohol was banned from the couple's big day at the request of Robbie, who has previously battled alcoholism and drug addiction.
Robbie's father Pete and mum Jan Williams flew out for the ceremony, while the 31-year-old actress' mother also attended, but not her estranged dad.
The singer's best friend Jonathan Wilkes was also a guest at the wedding, but his Take That bandmates ' Gary Barlow, Mark Owen, Jason Orange and Howard Donald ' were not there as they had prior vacation commitments.

Jennifer Lopez has revealed she is the strict parent in her household
The singer-and-actress insists husband Marc Anthony is like 'mush' when it comes to disciplining their two-year-old twins Max and Emme.

She explained to America's Glamour magazine: ''m the one who keeps everybody on schedule, like, 'Got to go to bed at this time, got to eat something.' Although Jennifer always planned to go back to work after having her twins, she now feels guilty when she leaves them.
She said: 'n my mind I first felt like, 'Oh, I'll be back to work right after the babies are born.' But then you don't want to. Even now, it's very difficult for me to leave them in the morning. It just tortures me. I'm like, 'It's been hours; are they wondering where I am? Do they know that I love them so much and I'm thinking only about them?' '
